is a browser extension that claims to instantly look for and apply the biggest savings whenever you shop. Sounds too good to be true, so we figured we’d give it a try.

We installed the Chrome browser extension on an older Thinkpad with 4 GB of Ram, and Windows 10 installed. Its a slow machine, so if we can run something on this, you can run it on anything.

First, the installation process. Installation was quick and painless – pretty much just “Click to install.” Then, very simple signup, including options to signup with Facebook, Google, PayPal and Apple. Again, no problems there.

After installation, we were given a choice between two different demos: the “I’m just here for the coupons” demo, and the “full” demo. We chose the full demo.

The first item in the demo their Droplist tool. This tool allows you to save an item from any supporting store to a watch list, which will alert you if the price drops to the level you set, in the time-period you set. Because Honey uses Walmart in it’s marketing materials, we decided to give that a try right away, and saved an item from Walmart.com to our new watch list for 60 days, looking for a 5% price decrease. Seems like a cool tool.

Next up, Honey Gold. Think of Honey Gold as a rewards program for shopping. Earn Honey Gold on select purchases. Once you earn enough Gold, you can redeem it for a free gift card.

The third stop in the demo is specifically for Amazon.com. The Amazon Best Price Finder does exactly what it says – it helps shoppers find the best prices on Amazon. This seems a bit redundant, because Amazon already allows you to sort by price, but it does seem to filter out Amazon’s annoying “Featured Retailer” listings. The Best Price Finder Button, which seems to have been relabeled “Best Deal” is a little hard to find, but once you find know where to look, its a handy little tool.

Finally, the demo brings us to the our personal Explore Page, which allows us to shop by store, browse categories, or find hot deals. The interface is pretty clear and easy to use, and brings up listings from a pretty wide variety of big box retailers and more niche sites.

Surprisingly, considering their reputation as a “coupon site,” the full demo excludes the coupon portion of the site. They do, however, offer the Coupon Demo at the completion of the full demo, so hey, why not?

This demo is more of a “how it works” list than a product tour. The demo simply walks through 4 simple steps:

1. One click savings – Honey pops up at checkout whenever we find coupon codes.
2. Let us do the work – We test every code so you never have to lift a finger.
3. The best deals fast – We instantly apply the biggest savings to your cart total. Cha-ching.
4. Rewards to top it off – Earn Honey Gold that you can redeem for gift cards at popular stores

All in all, Honey seems like a pretty cool online shopping tool, and we’re excited to really take it for a spin. Hopefully, we’ll see some savings!
